Is it possible to ensure the safety of the upcoming RNA based COVID-19 vaccine?
Given the time constraints at hand, it is impossible to ensure the safety of the upcoming RNA based COVID-19 vaccine.
- To ensure the safeness of a vaccine, extensive clinical studies of at least 5-10 years would be required.
- Vaccine manufacturers are not controlled by the same, strict legislation as other pharmaceutical companies. Consequence: There will not be any gold standard (double blind placebo control) studies.
- RNA vaccines have never before been tested or approved for use, and we know very little about the long-term effects of injecting foreign RNA into the bloodstream of a living organism.
